Diary, 1917-1918.

Diary of a serviceman with the British Army Service Corps (later Royal Army Service Corps or RASC) dating from April 1917 to March 1918. Accompanied by a manuscript copy of approximately one-half of the diary, dating from September 1917, and manuscript notes attributing authorship of the diary to "a Private Turner." The diary documents the private's ocean travel to and from England, his service in German East Africa, illness, and hospitalisation. In addition to discussing the war, daily activities, and fellow servicemen, the diary provides descriptions of Sierra Leone, Cape Town, Durban, Dar-es-Salaam, Kilwa Kisiwani, and other locations.
